Ha’oom Fisheries Society
Five Nuu-chah-nulth Nations – Ahousaht, Ehattesaht/Chinehkint, Hesquiaht, Tla-o-qui-aht & Mowachaht/Muchalaht – founded the Ha’oom Fisheries Society to support implementation of their commercial rights-based fisheries.
- The Nuu-chah-nulth are a Fishing People
- T’aaq-wiihak refers to fishing with permission of the Hἀwiiḥ (hereditary chiefs).
- The Ha’oom Fisheries Society, Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation (MMFN) and Balance Co-Lab work together on co-development and implementation of MMFN’s Food Security, Emergency Management, and Five-year Fisheries Economic Development Plans. This work upholds the Nuu-chah-nulth principles of hishuk ish tsa’walk (everything is connected, everything is one) and isaak (respect).
